Clarity earned the Engage Award for Great Place to Work after judges praised a comprehensive and innovative entry that showcased exceptional employee experience, high engagement, widespread promotions, generous rewards, and a deep focus on wellbeing and purpose – a truly stand‑out approach to developing people as whole humans and delivering measurable, life‑improving impact.

Congratulations on winning our most coveted award! What inspired your approach to building a great workplace?

We were inspired to build a great workplace because we are ambitious and set out to achieve greatness in all we do. We know it is our people which define the greatness of our customer experience so creating a great place to work, creates a space for greatness to integrate into every customer touchpoint, therefore shaping the greatness of our customer and brand experience.

When did you first feel your organisation becoming a truly great place to work?

When we developed our rapid growth strategy it became clear we would need far more advanced people processes to help everyone throughout the business embrace change and evolve with the fast-moving nature of the company.

We then upgraded every employee touchpoint, mapped out new people processes, aligned each process with our mission to improve lives and increased investment in rewards, benefits, and resource allocation significantly.

It was when we started implementing the changes, we could clearly see the boost in engagement and the positivity created from ‘people’ being placed firmly at the centre of our strategic decision making.

For me, the first moment I knew we had created something great was when I received multiple emails expressing how working at Clarity Environmental has improved life. The depth of the feedback and the tangible evidence team members expressed to convey appreciation showed me we had extended beyond traditional employee engagement strategy and created a life enhancing culture. It is impossible not to be moved by the feedback our team have shared with us. Coming to work knowing that together, we have built and continue to build something great unites us all in a shared sense of pride and purpose.

I would also say there is so much we can continue to improve, and we recognise we can never stand still. It is the ongoing investment in creating a great place to work which truly builds greatness. Ongoing evolution is critical.

What element of your workplace strategy represents excellence?

Our rewards programme connects everyone to financial performance, actualising the ethos “Achieve results together, receive rewards together.”

Our career coaching programme built to bring professional dreams into reality is a unique and creative opportunity, enabling everyone to build their own career plan. Our career coach works with every individual and asks: “In a world of no limits, what is your ideal career path?” and we don’t just mean with our business, we mean general career ambitions. From understanding this, we provide development, projects, opportunities, and guidance for how to build the dream career now rather than waiting for a role to become available, live the role now in behaviours and attitudes, learn the skills now and be ready. We also help people grow into dream roles through understanding the visions and potential of our people and aligning this with the company objectives, creating new vacancies and innovation to enable progression.

In our business, people don’t need to leave to receive promotion or progression, we create a dynamic ever evolving workplace, with nine tiers of progression available to everyone.

To make this possible, our career coach works with people to steer how their talent contributes to business growth, providing stepping stones to create opportunities for the vision to become reality, creating business cases and a win-win opportunity for the people and the business.

This initiative has helped us achieve 94% employee retention during a time of significant change where there has been high risk of staff turnover due to industry turbulence and workplace transformation requiring change from everyone. More than 45% of the team received an internal promotion from the initiative.

This strategy has a significant commercial advantage, as talent retention greatly enhances our customer experience and when our customers work with us, they work with engaged, established experts.

What impact has this had on employees and organisational life?

It has given our team a sense of empowerment and influence over their life and their future, with 100% of survey results reporting feeling empowered at work.

Our approach has created a workplace true to our values – to be ambitious and entrepreneurial. Organisational life throughout our business is full of passion, collective drive, and a shared purpose. It is not easy to bring the vision to life throughout the business, and we never tire of our new team members saying how they have never worked for a business where everyone shares the same passion and drive and sense of purpose.

Authenticity and vulnerability in the workplace have been a huge contributor for greatness. We believe everyone has unlimited greatness within them, and our approach to the workplace is to create psychological safety and the platform for everyone to shine in their own greatness. As each of us contributes our own inner greatness, we create a great place to work, and everyone feels part of what we have built. We achieved this together.

Why did you enter, and what does winning mean to your organisation?

We entered to celebrate the uniqueness of our workplace, and the brilliant contribution of our team to make our business a great place to work.

Winning this award meant so much to us. We have invested significantly in the workplace experience and hearing our name called for this award and the feedback from the judges acknowledged our courage to pioneer futuristic approaches to the workplace.

We are so proud of our incredible people making our company a great place to work. We also recognise how thorough the judging process is, which makes the win mean even more. We can’t express enough thanks for the acknowledgement; it inspires us to continue challenging ourselves to go to new territory within employee and customer engagement.

Were there any valuable learnings that shaped a better workplace?

Every company value needs to be embodied, and initiatives should reflect the company values at every step.

Find every opportunity possible to create the shared win. Our “Achieve results together, receive rewards together” ethos brings to life the ambition of our brand and is true to our values, where there is purpose and reward, vision can become victory.

What advice would you give others on their journey to becoming a great place to work?

It all starts with recruitment. Be clear on your workplace culture during the recruitment process and seek to recruit people embodying the ability to be a culture catalyst. Everyone impacts those around them, so getting the recruitment right transforms life throughout the organisation.

We are clear during the interview process that our culture is not for everyone, and we are transparent about what it looks like and the opportunities and challenges within the business. We also explore the deeper values during the interview process, ensuring alignment with company values.

Recruitment is where it starts. Our message would be recruit greatness, develop greatness, celebrate greatness.
